Episode 39: Diplomatic Drinks & Brown‑Sugar Dreams

Hey Got Tea Fam,
Late summer handed us a once‑in‑a‑lifetime surprise, and autumn answered with caramel‑striped cups straight from Taiwan. Pull up a chair; this chapter’s got heart, history, and a whole lot of syrup.

🇮🇳🇰🇷 A SHARED INDEPENDENCE‑DAY POUR

If you’d walked into our Deer Park outlet on any other Tuesday morning, you’d have found the usual hum of blenders and bubble‑tea chatter. But 15 August 2023 was different. We welcomed H.E. the Korean Ambassador to India for a joint celebration of freedom—India’s 77th and Korea’s 78th Independence Day.

He didn’t just cut a ribbon; he tied on an apron, slipped behind the bar, and—under coaching from our baristas—shook, sealed, and served drinks to stunned customers. The café filled with tricolour balloons, Taegukgi pins, and a soundtrack that slid from Bollywood beats to K‑pop bangers. Cameras flashed, guests cheered, and a dozen phones caught the moment history mixed with tapioca.

Watch it happen:

The Ambassador spoke about “tea bridges” between cultures, toasted to friendship, and signed a special cup we’ve since retired to our memory shelf. If bubble tea is all about fusion, this day proved it.

🐯 ENTER THE TIGER: AUTHENTIC BROWN‑SUGAR BOBA

After weeks of R&D—and a few clandestine taste‑tests with regulars—we unveiled Delhi’s first true Taiwanese Brown Sugar series.

What makes it different?

  1. Imported Taiwanese dark sugar for that deep molasses hit you can’t fake.
  2. slow‑simmer “tiger‑stripe” method, caramelising syrup until it clings to cup walls.
  3. Pearls kept warm in the syrup so every sip starts gooey and ends chewy.

Launch day: soft start, posters in cafés, teasers on Reels.
BOGO DAY: we swung open at 10 a.m. with a Buy‑One‑Get‑One‑Free offer for dine‑in and takeaway only. By noon the queue wrapped the block; by 4 p.m. #BrownSugarBoba was trending locally.

Flavour duo

  • Brown Sugar Bubble Tea — classic milk‑tea base
  • Brown Sugar Latte — espresso shot weaving through the caramel

Staff mastered the “tiger swirl,” our social team pumped out slow‑mo pour shots, and customers double‑fisted cups for that perfect syrup drip pic. We even printed a limited‑run Tiger Card loyalty stamp—redeem five Brown Sugar drinks, get the sixth on us.

📲 SOCIAL SWIRLS & STREET‑TEAM HYPE

For two weeks straight, our feeds were awash in caramel streaks and pearl close‑ups. We ran:

  • Behind‑the‑Scenes Lives showing syrup prep at 90 °C.
  • UGC Challenges: best tiger‑stripe photo wins merch.
  • Street‑team samplers handing mini cups at GK2 metro exit.

The result? Record October footfalls and DMs asking when the Brown Sugar series would hit Zomato (soon!).

WHAT STICKS WITH US

  1. A diplomat making bubble tea proved flavour really does cross borders.
  2. A humble sugar recipe reminded us that great taste sometimes needs a passport stamp.
  3. You—all of you—turned launches into memories with every tag, cheer, and slurp.

Here’s to friendships forged over tapioca and to flavours that travel farther than any flight.

This journal is an ongoing series tracing the story of Got Tea, the latest bubble tea brand launched in India, now available on Zomato and Swiggy. Want to know what happens next? Stay tuned – new episodes come out on a regular basis!
